Psychiatrists less likely to take insurance than others

December 19, 2013 in General

On Dec. 11/2013 (Reuters Health) – reported that psychiatrists in the U.S. are less likely to accept insurance than other types of doctors, according to a new study.

Researchers found only about half of psychiatrists accepted private insurance between 2009 and 2010, compared to almost 90 percent of doctors in other specialties.

It could be that insurance doesn’t pay psychiatrists enough for the extra time they spend with their patients compared to – for example – a family doctor. The findings could also reflect a shortage of psychiatrists, which means there are enough patients willing to pay upfront.

For Canadians Living Near The U.S. border, It Can Take Less Than 5 Minutes To Cross Over Into A World of Hurt

A recent poll conducted by BCAA (British Columbia Automobile Association) showed that the majority of B.C. travellers crossing the border for short trip take risks – insurance risks from unexpected medical emergencies.

In a recent cross-border travel poll it was revealed that 77% of British Columbians who have travelled to the U.S. without travel insurance, do so because they believe that short trips don’t justify getting insurance.

With many Canadians making travel plans to the U.S. for Black Friday shopping, travellers should consider the risks with leaving their province – even for a few hours, without adequate medical coverage.

“It’s a huge gamble to leave B.C. [Canada] for any length of time without any, or adequate, travel insurance,” says Hubert Rau, BCAA’s vice president of Insurance Marketing. “Learning from our survey that people are travelling unprotected is troubling. Even a minor, unexpected medical emergency, especially in the U.S., could cost thousands of dollars to treat, let alone all the other expenses associated with a medical incident.”

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The state’s new online health insurance marketplace is boasting that Minnesota is now the “Land of 10,000 MNsure Accounts.”

MNsure’s executive director, April Todd-Malmlov, says more than 10,000 Minnesotans have opened accounts in the first 10 days of the exchange’s operation, including about 300 opened by small-business owners. And there have been more than 35,000 unique visits to the MNsure.org website. MNsure’s call center has been taking an average of 1,000 calls each day.

Enrollment figures won’t be available until Wednesday next week. Todd-Malmlov says some users inadvertently submitted multiple applications that need to be consolidated.

Remember — Actions Speak Louder Than Words

June 12, 2013 in General

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” – Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

To some, this quote may just be a moral to a witty tale, but it spoke to me on many different levels. You can apply it to your life any way you want, whether that’s in your personal life or in your career. My mind went directly to business. I think it’s fair to say that Property & Casualty insurance agents are legitimate, eager, knowledgeable and essential salespeople. But to really make a difference – to really succeed — there has to be an obvious, true and honest effort on the agent’s part.

Medical Insurance Bill is different than Claim?

June 11, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I’m hoping someone with some legal experience can help me. I got sick and had to go to the hosipital. I recieved a bill for about $780. I called and gave them my insurance info and they filed a claim for $1500.00. Is this normal for the hospital to tack on $800 because I have insurance? Would like some advice on what to do next, anything would help.
