My burning questions

April 8, 2014 in General

You may have noticed that it has been some time since my last post. This is mainly due to the fact I have been ill and I have felt too poorly to attempt to write coherently, though I have also been spending some much needed time with my partner, who recently had 2 weeks off work to look after me. I am feeling OK now, and he is back at work, but this bout of illness got me thinking… what is it going to be like if I get sick on the road? Will all my travel plans have to be put on hold? or will I just suck it up and attempt to enjoy myself regardless of how sick I am?

Five (commonly) Forgotten Mortgage Questions

December 22, 2013 in General

In keeping with yesterday’s mortgage theme, here is a short but valuable list of questions to ask your loan officer.

What’s the Annual Percentage Rate? The interest rate–which is NOT the Annual Percentage Rate–is used only to calculate monthly payments. This means it doesn’t cover other costs associated with borrowing, such as closing costs, loan origination fees (where lenders really make their money), mortgage insurance, and more. The APR does factor in these additional costs. Now lenders are required to disclose the APR whereas before the bubble burst they could get away with the ol’ “bait-and-switch”. A low interest rate may catch your eye but may also mean higher fees elsewhere. Buyer beware! Or better yet, knowledgable. :)
