People With Cancelled Insurance Plans Will Be Temporarily Exempt from January 1 Fines

December 21, 2013 in General

People who lost their coverage will be exempt from the Monday deadline to purchase health insurance.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius says she will use authorities in the law to issue a “temporary hardship exemption” from those penalties.

Under another stopgap option Sebelius announced Thursday, those whose plans were canceled will be able to buy a bare-bones catastrophic plan regardless of their age. Such plans had been intended for those under 30.

Study: Premiums for Young People to Rise in all 50 States

October 4, 2013 in General

By Elizabeth Harrington

Health insurance premiums for young people will rise in all 50 states under Obamacare, with an average increase of 260 percent, according to a study released Thursday. The young and healthy segment of the uninsured is considered crucial for the Affordable Care Act to succeed. Former President Bill Clinton suggested last week that Obamacare only works “if young people show up.”

However, an analysis of premiums both before and after the implementation of Obamacare shows that 18- to 35-year-olds are likely to opt out of high rates in the exchanges in favor of cheaper penalties for not having insurance.

According to a study released by the American Action Forum, post-Obamacare premiums will average $187.08 per month, up from $62 per month in 2013, a 202 percent increase. Overall, states averaged an increase of 260 percent.

The issue of health care is generally not as much of a priority to the youth as it is to older people?

July 26, 2013 in Health insurance

The older you are, the more difficult it is to get insurance and you need it even more. When I was young and had no assets to protect and no children to take to the doctor, I didn’t really think too much about health care. Does anyone else see this trend?
???Medicare? You have to be 65 to get that IF you live that long. People even put off retirement all for this reason.
darrin-I agree it is or will eventually be important to everybody. It’s something everybody needs.
