Look to thine own self

August 1, 2013 in General

As I sit to pen my latest snapshot of the financial services industry, the FTSE100 stands at a fraction over 6500, having dropped over 10% from the previous high, and then recovered the greater part of that loss. That means that the index has pretty much doubled, since the troubled times of credit crunches, bank failures, bail-outs, and the ensuing market crash(es). Over the 25 years or so that I have been in the Financial Services industry, markets have been ‘interesting’ to say the least. I had only been in the job about a year when Black Monday befell the London Stock Exchange on October 1987. One thing I have learned, is that markets will go up, and they will go down. This may not seem an earth-shattering revelation, but it is vital to remember. So is “saving is for the short term, and investing is for the long.” The longer, the better.

A Look at the Reality of Deferred TAXES and IRA’s – the Catch-22 for Boomers

June 4, 2013 in General

 Retirement Planning Forty Years ago.

The Smart Retirement Plan for Boomers

Forty Years ago, even less than that, if you were a frugal and smart person, you had some type of Retirement plan. And, often, these were savings accounts, funds, IRA‘s and eventually 401k’s, among others, all of which offered you the option of Deferred Taxes when you drew your money out after you retired.

Along with all of your other company benefits, if you were lucky enough to have the extra income, you were allowed to put a certain amount of your income into an IRA or 401k which are government approved and tax deferred savings plans.

What the Senate, House and White House look like in January 2009, after the election…will we see a change?

March 6, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

After the election this year, will we see a change. Will we see an America the really stands on its principle of open oppurtunity for all, or will continue to place an attack on the middle class

What would a capitalist health INSURANCE system look like?

January 12, 2013 in General

A fundamental problem with using the word “capitalism” is that it has come to be associated with the idea of “favorable to big business”.  For this reason large corporations proclaim their love for “capitalism” while simultaneously, intentionally or not, doing everything in their power to subvert its basic principles.  Also for this reason, those who are not happy with what they, sometimes correctly, see as bad behavior on the part of large corporations, loudly rail against the evils of “capitalism”.  One is just as wrong as the other.  I argue that capitalism is not necessarily favorable to big business, in fact if fairly applied, capitalism would never result in the large mega-corporations we see today nor the influence that they have on our economy and government.

Look What I Got…

letter from insurance company

Not a great picture, I know.  Also backwards.  But it’s not how it looks that is important, it’s what it says:

The Lifetime Benefit Maximum provision as listed in the BENEFIT HIGHLIGHTS section and the LIFETIME MAXIMUM provision in the PROGRAM PAYMENT PROVISIONS section of your Policy are deleted in their entirety.

Booyah.

Do creditors look at Unpaid Dr.Bills when someone wants to build a home, even though other bills are on time?

December 29, 2012 in Insurance jobs and educations

I get sick often and i have insurance with my husband’s job. We plan on building a house next year. Will banks and creditors look at those doctor bills under his name even though he has perfect credit with everything else. And are creditors lenient toward doctor bills? Besides the doctor bills are the only delinquent bills under his name, but that is my fault. His credit is A1 besides that. He’s never been late on a bill in his life and he has been having credit since he was nineteen and now he’s 29.
