Last Minute Back-To-School Preparations Leads to Worker Injury

It’s nearly back-to-school time, and many schools have recently hired construction companies to put the finishing touches on the school to be ready for the first day. Unfortunately, during such a construction project, and accident occurred…and an employee was injured.

A workplace accident is under investigation in Rochester after a man fell from a hydraulic lift last week.

Police say the worker was painting trim at Spaulding High School when he fell Friday afternoon.

He was transported to an area hospital, but was then air lifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland due to the extent of his injuries.

In a published opinion after a remand order from the Michigan Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals has ruled that under the Workers’ Disability Compensation Act (WDCA), an insurance carrier responsible for paying worker’s compensation (wage-loss benefits) for an employee’s initial disabling injury, may apportion its liability for wage-loss benefits with the insurance carrier covering the employee when he incurred a separate disabling injury, which was suffered by the employee during his performance of light-duty “reasonable employment” work as the result of the initial injury.
