TRENDING: Doctors shun health-care insurance — this one in Missouri

April 23, 2014 in General

By Samantha Rinehart ~ Southeast Missourian

APRIL 22, 2014 - Dr. Mike Wulfers spoke at the regular meeting of the Cape County Tea Party on Tuesday night to talk about a unique method of health care — the concierge doctor.

Wulfers said he’s part of a “growing movement” in the country that strives to provide more personalized primary care. The concierge practice, or direct primary care as Wulfers called it, provides medical services to a limited number of patients who pay a monthly fee. These practices do not accept commercial insurance, Medicare or Medicaid.

Adventures in Healthcare

February 8, 2014 in General

After years of buying into an employer healthcare plan through the public school system and then a few years of chancing it as an uninsured adult, I finally started buying my own health insurance this past August.

Oh, how mature I felt, looking up and comparing plans online, signing up for dental and vision coverage, paying my first monthly bill. Little did I know that my plan would include a rider that barred me from all coverage for preexisting conditions. The only reasons I go to the doctor anymore are for my lady checkups, my therapy sessions, and to check on my migraine condition.

Healthcare is not a free market

From the obvious department, amIright? Yes, but not for the reasons you think. Healthcare cannot and never will be a free market. There are several reasons for this that I will elaborate on here.

A little rant on healthcare

December 17, 2013 in General

It has been over a week since I last sat down to write.  The holidays are a busy time for most people, but as I tend to avoid all things Christmas related I can’t really use that as an excuse.  No, what I have been really doing is attempting my career overhaul.  I have spent six years working in the healthcare and fitness industry and I am desperate to leave it all behind.  So I have been studying, filling out applications and preparing myself to not only go back to school for a subject I never never thought I’d need, but also doing a complete 180 and starting over at the bottom of the ladder.  To top it all off, I am hunting for new health insurance.  A task which has left me frustrated, confused and angry.
