Should a teenager who stays out of trouble and makes good grades be given more freedom?

February 4, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I’m a junior in high school and I have a 4.1 GPA. I’ve never been in trouble with the cops and I have a good reputation. I still party but I keep it on the down low and I don’t get in trouble. I feel like I should be given more freedom like staying by myself at home when my parents are out of town or staying out later than 12 and being able to stay at a friends house without my mom calling their parents. I have a job and I pay for my gas and insurance. Should I be given more freedom? Or should my parents still nag at me and treat me like I’m 12?

How does universal health care impinge on personal freedom?

December 14, 2012 in Banking insurance

I was recently speaking to a gentleman who was opposed to health care reform in the United States. He claimed that public health care would ‘impinge upon personal freedom’, but he couldn’t clarify why this is. Could anyone explain this claim/argument?

Thanks!

Freedom

September 27, 2012 in General

In an interview with 60 minutes this weekend, Mitt Romney was asked what his primary focus would be for the country should be win the election. He stated that he would bring “Freedom” to the country. Freedom.

Oh really?

Ok, I am being snarky because I understand what he is doing there completely. It’s all in how to drill down and define “freedom” really.

For the Libertarian/Conservative leaning folks it means freedom from as much, if not all, government intervention in your day to day life.

With some key exceptions of course.

Do Americans have less job freedom b/c insurance is tied to employment?

April 8, 2012 in Insurance jobs and educations

Just wondering. In Australia, where the citizenry also enjoy freedom of speech, religon, assembly, and yes, you can own a firearm in Australia (look it up, it’s regulated, of course, but it’s legal), a high per-capita income, a reasonable tax rate and a military that proved itself in two world wars, Korea and Viet Nam, they can work two part-time jobs or work freelance or one part-time job and not have to wonder, “where will my benefits come from?” So, they can switch jobs more readily or enjoy more job freedom. Do Americans like being locked into jobs b/c of being unable to buy insurance with a pre-existing condition outside their employment? How do Yanks work freelance if they have Diabetes? How do you work two part-time jobs if you have Crohn’s Disease? Long Live Australia, at least they got it right.
