American Statism

May 29, 2014 in General

The entire statist ideology, that is, “big government” AKA communism, is based on the idea that the government is somehow comprised of better, more honest and fair people who are certainly far best at determining what is good for us all.  That allowing a natural thing like the marketplace, the laws of supply and demand, need, want and interest decide what we do, how we live, what we buy and how, is somehow magically going to be better when someone we don’t even know in some office somewhere decides whether you get that treatment you need or not, or the kind of light bulb you can by or who gets preference in hiring.  And what else later?  You say that’s the way it is now with the insurance companies.  And to great extent that may be true… what you probably don’t see, and won’t until it’s too late, is that you can fight with an insurance company, you dare not fight a government you gave that power over you.

Son Of A Glitch: What Does Obamacare Say About American Technology?

October 14, 2013 in General

Healthcare.gov website down

While Democrats and Republicans debate about whether to fund President Barack Obama’s universal health care bill, people have been heading to the website signing up left and right for the program.

President Barack Obama

This is a good sign for the President who’s bill has actually gained in popularity since Congress decided to engage in a “winner takes all” cage match, but there’s a huge fly in the ointment. While the U.S. can boast creating the Internet, we’re grossly behind other countries when it comes to advancements in it’s technology. Case in point, the President can’t even tell you how many people actually signed up for the program! Combine that with the numerous issues that people have reported since the site went live and you why this is a issue.

American Entitlement Culture

October 11, 2013 in General

Recently, I happened across an item which read “When they analyze the demise of western society due to the entitlement epidemic, it’ll trace back to giving kids awards just for showing up.”

Of course, it can sometimes be difficult to discern sarcasm when reading, and I rather suspect there is at least a smidgen of sarcasm in that brief remark.

Sarcasm, of course, can, and is often used to convey a truth, or truths about numerous subjects, and is a teaching tool, as well.

Because I often use dictionaries to aid my understanding, I chose to look up the definition of the word “entitlement.” Here’s what I found:
As a verb, to “entitle” is to give someone a legal right, or a just claim to receive or do something.

For example, in the United States, the First Amendment is an entitlement to

Will my American health insurance cover me in Canada?

June 20, 2013 in Health insurance

I have health insurance in America. I am going to Canada for college an I’m going to have a student study visa. Will my insurance from here work there in Canada, or do I have to get travelers insurance until I become a citizen and get free health care? How much is travelers insurance compared to health insurance? Thank you.

How does the American Health Care System work?

June 10, 2013 in Health insurance

I’m from England and considering moving to American but to consider it properly I want to understand some things. Most importantly how does the American Health Care System work? In the Uk we have the NHS, a free health care system. I understand that in the US one must have health insurance but where would I get this? Furthermore, where would you go for general medical queries such as a cold, headache etc. (The US equivalent to a GP)?
I would really appreciate some help!
Thanks :)
