What to Do Before, During and After a Thunderstorm

August 12, 2014 in General

No doubt, Summer can bring some pretty severe storms to North Texas. According to the National Weather Service, lightning strikes account for an average of 54 deaths per year in the United States, so when thunderstorms are in the forecast, it’s usually a sign to head indoors and if you have to put away the golf clubs for a few hours or head in off of the lake to wait out the storm, it’s worth it.  Here are some tips on what to do before, during and after a thunderstorm.

HARFORD TOWNSHIP — Mill Street in the Kingsley area seemed much quieter on Friday than had been the past few days.

Power was restored later Thursday after Tuesday night’s storm knocked out power and knocked down trees.

“First thing I did was run down here and I wanted to see if everyone had their power back,” said Alan Oakley from Kingsley.

These kids are spending their summer vacation cleaning up the mess the storm left behind in Susquehanna County.

Now that the power’s back on, homes and businesses are checking with their insurance company to see if their damage is covered.

John Conrad: When discussing reducing patient access to new therapeutic drugs, Let me preface this post with a few facts:
1. In 30 years drug development costs have grown from $140M to $1.2B
2. In that same time period, R&D spending has increased from $2B to $51B
3. In that same time period, therapeutics have provided 83% gain in life expectancy for cancer patients
4. The Death rate from Cardiovascular
disease has dropped by 39% in the past 10 years.
5. Since 1995 death rates from HIV/AIDS has dropped by more than 80%

Access to new therapies increases life expectancy, eases suffering, and keeps patients out of the hospital, which reduces overall healthcare costs.

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES, May 28 (Reuters) – Shocked by the rapid adoption of a new $84,000 hepatitis C treatment, U.S. health insurers are trying to make sure they aren’t blindsided by other drugs being developed and are looking for ways to limit their use from the day they are launched.

What to do after a car crash

October 1, 2013 in General

  • Preservation of life before all else!
  • How are you, your passengers and other parties?
  • Do you need to move your position to protect yourself?
  • If someone is injured other than you, then it is a legal duty that you contact the police from the scene, otherwise you may commit an offence. (Section 170 Road Traffic Act 1988 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/170/enacted)
  • If you (the driver) is injured, then if another motor vehicle was involved then their driver must ring the police. If they decline, then you do it.

How do I sue Firestone? They rotated my tires and one fell off after I told them it felt like it might fall off?

July 16, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

Dropped off car to have tires rotated. Firestone had my car for 3 full days. Picked it up and went back saying front tire drivers side making noise. Worried it would fall off. I have been going there for 10 years. Barry, manager told me it was just uneven wear. Said I am driving 4 hours someone check it. Butch came out, got on ground, took my hand and put my hand on tire and said feel the uneven wear. That’s all it is. I said I don’t think so. Do I have your word that is all it is. Butch put his hand on my shoulder and said MRS> N I give you my word. Next day after 3 hours it fell of rolled down a bridge and my car SHOULD have been totaled by insurance. I called them IMMEDIATELY FIRST even before Triple A for a tow. They apologized over and over. Next day Butch called and said he did not sleep at all he felt so bad and was happy we were relatively okay. They would cover everything. So far have spent $7,000 plus on car and $480 on xrays. Got prednisone for disc problem and I am okay now but they said they would pay and should! The young lawyer helping me said he is having trouble figuring out how to sue them because that little Firestone is registered under an assumed business name and he can’t find it. Called some big name lawyers but unless I claimed great physical injury they said not worth the time. HELP ME GET JUSTICE PLEASE . Very bad experience trying to keep car on the road with a metal rim on a bridge trying not to go into the water. My son who is blind kept saying pull over but I said I CAN’T we’d go into the water. It was awful. And, I TOLD Them it sounded like it would fall off. Tow truck gave us a ride but rental car places were then closed so we took a cab for $180 to our destination. We run a little bed and breakfast together in the summer and fall together. We had to walk to the store every day for the food for guests, toilet paper etc because even Enterprise would not bring a car to the island. I was in pain for a month but the predinisone did clear it up. But, my car still has issues. Ever since I got it back when I hit a bump the headlight on that side goes out. I have to hit another bump to get it to turn back on. The window on the side where the wheel fell off won’t roll up and down all the time. I finally turned it to the insurance company and got some but they claimed that if my TIRE fell off rather than my WHEEL I would have a “no fault accident” But, since metal actually hit the road I bear the burden of fault. Therefore my car insurance went up astronomically. I have been going to that same Firestone for over 10 years and they told me that they all felt terrible. But, they said I had to call corporate office who said they had an “investigator” who looked at my car and said, essentially, the wheel feel off because I wrecked it. Not so. I wrecked it BECAUSE the wheel fell off. I know I probably should just move on but I can’t leave my neighborhood without driving by there and it really upsets me. I am grateful for any help on how to sue FIRESTONE in Midlothian Va. on the Midlothian Turnpike.

What is the GOP plan for health care after ObamaCare is gone?

May 27, 2013 in Health insurance

Is the plan to go back to the over priced insurance that lets them kick you off and find ways to NOT cover you after you paid for it? Is it to go back to high cost insurance that goes back to less that 50% that goes to actual health care.

What are my legal rights after someone destroys a brand new car?

May 15, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

through their utter negligence (no one, including police, could believe what he did)? I was not physically injured but his actions were reflective of someone who may actually have been high or just plain shouldn’t be allowed to drive – he did not need to hit me had he stopped when I beeped. But then he didn’t even stop after he hit me and instead continued to drive his 2 ton commercial truck up and over the front end of my car despite both of us sitting in our respective lanes for quite some time since we had a stop sign and opposing traffic did not.
