dollar signGood news for 2015: A state storm fund has paid off debts 18 months early so regulators today ended a 1.3 percent assessment that appears on insurance bills statewide.

That means policies renewing on or after Jan. 1 just got 1.3 percent cheaper.

The Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund emergency assessment began at 1 percent in 2007 and was increased to 1.3 percent in 2011. The $2.9 billion collected was used to pay claims from the series of eight hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004 and 2005.
