The Fundamentals of Indexed Universal Life

July 7, 2012 in Insurance Agent

Indexed UL is a type of fixed insurance product, and regulated by the state insurance departments for each individual state. It does not require the presentation of a prospectus because it is not a securities product. Indexed Universal Life provides lifetime coverage that is unbundled and flexible, yet earns potential interest that is based on an external index, such as the S&P 500®. Universal Life (IUL) was developed in 1997, and was a solution for people who wanted the safety and guarantees of Universal Life, but also wanted a potential for greater interest crediting. This permanent type of insurance provides lifetime coverage if performance warrants, as well as minimum guaranteed cash values and death benefits (like traditional Universal Life). Minimum guarantees may be slightly lower than traditional UL, in order to compensate for the greater upside crediting potential. Upside potential is limited, however. The cash values of an IUL are based in-part on one or more indexed crediting method(s) that the client selects. In this manner, IUL’s resemble VUL because the client has some control over the policy through the premium allocation (although not all policies give a choice of multiple crediting methods). However, like traditional UL, the insurance company assumes any risk in the event of a downturn in interest rates. The funds that back this type of product are also held in the insurance carrier’s general account. Therefore, the Indexed Universal Life policyholder is

Cain novel by Wilder and Raymond Chandler, Double Indemnity represents the high-water mark of 1940s film noir urban crime dramas in which a greedy, weak man is seduced and trapped by a cold, evil woman amidst the dark shadows and Expressionist lighting of modern cities. Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) seduces insurance agent Walter Neff (Fred MacMurray) into murdering her husband to collect his accident policy. The murder goes as planned, but after the couple’s passion cools, each becomes suspicious of the other’s motives. The plan is further complicated when Neff’s boss Barton Keyes (Edward G. Robinson), a brilliant insurance investigator, takes over the investigation. Told in flashbacks from Neff’s perspective, the film moves with ruthless determinism as each character meets what seems to be a preordained fate. Movie veterans Stanwyck, MacMurray, and Robinson give some of their best performances, and Wilder’s cynical sensibility finds a

The Financial Industry Monthly Update July 2012

July 7, 2012 in Insurance Agent

USdebtclock.org – Almost 19 Trillion in debt as of June 26, 2012 TruthinAccounting.org — Almost 77 Trillion in debt & government social programs and pensions Featured Article: “Changing the conversation about national debt” In the past three years, city officials of Stockton, California have reduced medical benefits and reduced wages, in addition to laying off a quarter of their police force, a third of their firefighters and 40 percent of other employees in attempt to combat their incredible debt. Stockton, the US city with the second-highest foreclosure rate, has a deficit of approximately $26 million. Officials are currently deciding whether or not to declare the city bankrupt. That $26 million is one small slice of the state of California’s deficit pie, which has increased by 70 percent to $15.7 billion in the last six months. The economic hardship that California is experiencing nods to the country’s collective debt, which now sits at $15.7 trillion. Our debt is a highly debated topic, especially with presidential elections around the corner. Republicans are advocating tax and spending cuts and health care repeal to reduce this ever-expanding number, whereas Democrats have suggested another round of targeted spending. According to the Associated Press, President Obama called the United States economy “the defining issue of our time.” Obama, Romney and their advisors all disagree about what to do about it though, so Americans can expect these debates to heat up, and

Renting your house in San Diego How to get your home rent ready Part 2

July 6, 2012 in Insurance Agent

www.sandiegorentalblog.com So you have decided to rent your property out in San Diego, but as a landlord are you aware of any possible liabilities and insurance changes that might need to be made? Jennifer Newton, with Walters Home Management in San Diego, who specialize in leasing and management of single family homes in San Diego offers some recommendations. First and foremost on the to-do list, Jennifer suggests is changing your homeowner insurance policy to a landlord’s policy. Your insurance agent will be able to advise you on how much liability coverage you should have to cover your rental property. Many typical homeowner policies do not cover a vacant property or one not occupied by the owner so this adjustment to a landlord policy is very important to insure you are adequately covered in the event of a loss at the property. Secondly, Jennifer suggests taking a thorough walk around the property to assess if any risks or potential liabilities exist. An important part of risk management is making sure to maintain a property that is safe for tenants to occupy. Therefore, it is the job of the property owner to look for unsafe or dangerous conditions on the property and either remedy it or issue an appropriate warning. For example, a raised area of concrete due to a tree line can cause someone to trip and fall, injuring themselves. A missing cover on an irrigation drain could cause someone to fall and hurt their ankle or leg. Some simple things that stay on your To Do
