Is there a place to report a buisness who treats employees poorly?

July 25, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I was laid off from a great job in March due to government budget cuts. We have a union, so all people who were laid off were chosen by seniority and job category. I desperately wanted a job, and I was hired as a driver for a limousine company.
This job came with a lot of requirements including buying uniforms, getting a DOT physical, taking a test for a Chauffeur’s license, and of course training which was unpaid. In all the cost was about $500 out of pocket. On top of that I was required to sign a contract that stated that if I worked for less than 90 days I would be required to pay $600 for training fees.
After training was complete I worked for about 15 days. During this first 2 weeks I felt there were multiple times that the boss put me in danger by forcing me to drive while talking on a cell phone with out a hands free device, and requiring me to work a lite night shift followed by an early morning shift (5 hours off). On top of that, work schedules were given out on a day to day basis via E-mail. I would receive an E-mail between 7-7:30PM to let me know when I was working the next day. If I did not receive an E-mail, I had the day off. During my days off I was “on call” and would have to report to work within 2 hours if called. I never knew when I was going to have a day off and couldn’t go too far from home if I did have a day off. If I had an appointment or wanted a day off, he required 2weeks notice and then reserved the right to deny time off. It seemed imposable to make any appointments I needed!
I was going to tough it out for the 90 days and then move on, but things did not go as planned! My fiance attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head. I was there and saw the entire thing. I am traumatized and extremely depresses. Amazingly he survived, but is still in the ICU in critical condition. The prognosis for his recovery is not looking good.
I had to make several appointments to deal with insurance, police investigation, and I made counseling appointments for myself. Because I don’t have a work schedule, I could not schedule my appointments around work. I scheduled my appointments and let my boss know when they were, and told him how important they were. I also let him know that I was not in control of my emotions, and I was afraid that if I burst out in tears while driving it may hurt his business reputation.
In the end he scheduled me to work during my appointments, and said if I chose to go to my appointments rather than work that he would consider it a voluntary quit on my behalf. I chose to put myself first this time, and went to my appointments. I was afraid that even if I did go to work so I didn’t have to pay the $600 training fee, I may burst into tears and he may come ofter me for damages for damaging his business’s’ reputation.
Is there a place to report someone like this? If I were to write a bad review could he come after me for ruining his business’s reputation? Would it be worth it to take him to small claims court for the $600 training fee, plus harassment or unethical behavior?

Is it personally responsible to not have health-insurance and pass the cost to taxpayers…?

July 23, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

through emergency room drain? That doesn’t sound personally responsible to me. It makes sense to have everyone purchase health insurance because if they don’t, that cost gets passed to everyone.

I want to start my own transport business based in Tx….Can anybody give me some info. on how to do it right?

July 22, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I would be starting out using my new diesel p/up and my 25′ 14000# rated dovetail gooseneck. I want to be legal in Tx and the rest of the U.S. as well as obtain the proper commercial insurance coverage. I already have some “inside” contacts w/ an auto manufacturer, some oil/gas companies, boating and RV’s, tractor dealerships and even some contacts in the rodeo/horse trailer business. I just want to do it right and not be one of these guys “rolling the dice” w/other peoples merchandise and lives by running illegal! Any help or advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

Can they really make me go to a doctor to be able to come back to work?

July 20, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I use to live in Mississippi(grew up in the northeast). Any time I called out of work sick, they told me that I had to bring in a doctors note; to be able to come back to work. Is that fair? Is it legal? I was thinking that is wasn’t legal. How can a job make me go to a doctor for calling out sick for one day when I don’t have insurance?

I was hit by a drunk driver and his insurance company wants to offer me a low settlelment, he is at fault.?

July 19, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

I have missed 3 weeks off work and went to the hospital for injuries to my neck and back. I was hit on the freeway going 65 mph and the drunk driver was going 110 when he rear ended me. The drunk driver was taken to jail and the police report states this is his 4th offense, how can I get the most for a settlement from his insurance company?

If a person had the same ins company for several years, and a young driver became of age and got a license?

July 17, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

What happens if you don’t report them to the ins company? I don’t see anything that says you must. Can’t afford the premium.
I appreciate your answers, but I still don’t see anything in the policy that denies coverage to anyone as long as they have a license. Maybe I’m wrong. Big gamble if I am.

How do I sue Firestone? They rotated my tires and one fell off after I told them it felt like it might fall off?

July 16, 2013 in Insurance jobs and educations

Dropped off car to have tires rotated. Firestone had my car for 3 full days. Picked it up and went back saying front tire drivers side making noise. Worried it would fall off. I have been going there for 10 years. Barry, manager told me it was just uneven wear. Said I am driving 4 hours someone check it. Butch came out, got on ground, took my hand and put my hand on tire and said feel the uneven wear. That’s all it is. I said I don’t think so. Do I have your word that is all it is. Butch put his hand on my shoulder and said MRS> N I give you my word. Next day after 3 hours it fell of rolled down a bridge and my car SHOULD have been totaled by insurance. I called them IMMEDIATELY FIRST even before Triple A for a tow. They apologized over and over. Next day Butch called and said he did not sleep at all he felt so bad and was happy we were relatively okay. They would cover everything. So far have spent $7,000 plus on car and $480 on xrays. Got prednisone for disc problem and I am okay now but they said they would pay and should! The young lawyer helping me said he is having trouble figuring out how to sue them because that little Firestone is registered under an assumed business name and he can’t find it. Called some big name lawyers but unless I claimed great physical injury they said not worth the time. HELP ME GET JUSTICE PLEASE . Very bad experience trying to keep car on the road with a metal rim on a bridge trying not to go into the water. My son who is blind kept saying pull over but I said I CAN’T we’d go into the water. It was awful. And, I TOLD Them it sounded like it would fall off. Tow truck gave us a ride but rental car places were then closed so we took a cab for $180 to our destination. We run a little bed and breakfast together in the summer and fall together. We had to walk to the store every day for the food for guests, toilet paper etc because even Enterprise would not bring a car to the island. I was in pain for a month but the predinisone did clear it up. But, my car still has issues. Ever since I got it back when I hit a bump the headlight on that side goes out. I have to hit another bump to get it to turn back on. The window on the side where the wheel fell off won’t roll up and down all the time. I finally turned it to the insurance company and got some but they claimed that if my TIRE fell off rather than my WHEEL I would have a “no fault accident” But, since metal actually hit the road I bear the burden of fault. Therefore my car insurance went up astronomically. I have been going to that same Firestone for over 10 years and they told me that they all felt terrible. But, they said I had to call corporate office who said they had an “investigator” who looked at my car and said, essentially, the wheel feel off because I wrecked it. Not so. I wrecked it BECAUSE the wheel fell off. I know I probably should just move on but I can’t leave my neighborhood without driving by there and it really upsets me. I am grateful for any help on how to sue FIRESTONE in Midlothian Va. on the Midlothian Turnpike.
